Ketevan Kemoklidze Biography
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Ketevan Kemoklidze is internationally acclaimed for her refined vocal artistry, magnetic stage presence, and dramatic insight.
After obtaining a Doctorate in Musical Arts (DMA) from the V. Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire (under the guidance of Prof. Guliko Kariauli) and a Master’s degree in International Economic Relations from the Technical University of Georgia, she was awarded the Special Prize of Teatro alla Scala at the Hans Gabor Belvedere International Singing Competition, which granted her admission to the Teatro alla Scala Academy without the need to take the entrance examination.
She has also received prizes at numerous prestigious international competitions, including Operalia, the Concours International de Chant de la Ville de Toulouse, the Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona, the Hans Gabor Belvedere International Competition in Vienna, the Elena Obraztsova International Singing Competition in St Petersburg, as well as the Georgian National and Young Musicians Competitions.
She has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Opéra National de Montpellier, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, the Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, the Polish National Opera, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the New National Theatre Tokyo, the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Malmö Opera, Oper Graz, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, and Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, among many others.
She has also participated in renowned international festivals, including the Arena di Verona Festival, the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, the Macerata Opera Festival, the Quincena Musical de San Sebastián, MITO SettembreMusica, Mozartfest, the Stresa Festival, the VictoriA Life Festival, the Wexford Festival Opera, and the Tsinandali Festival, among others.
Her extensive repertoire spans a wide stylistic range and includes roles in works such as Carmen, Aida, Werther, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola, Maria Stuarda, Le Comte Ory, Le nozze di Figaro, Norma, Anna Bolena, Linda di Chamounix, Don Carlo, La forza del destino, Roméo et Juliette, Faust, Così fan tutte, Ascanio in Alba, Edgar, Salome, Manon, Rigoletto, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Eugene Onegin, and The Love for Three Oranges, among others. As a concert soloist, she has performed works including Ivan the Terrible and Alexander Nevsky on tour with the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Vivaldi’s Magnificat with I Solisti Veneti; the concert “Plácido Domingo and His Georgian Friends”; Verdi’s and Mozart’s Requiems; Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder and Rückert-Lieder; Stravinsky’s Pulcinella; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9; the AIDS Gala of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Deutsche Oper am Rhein; the Georgian premiere of Handel’s Messiah; and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. She also portrayed Adriana Ferrarese (Donna Elvira) in the film Io, Don Giovanni, directed by Carlos Saura.
Alongside her artistic career, Ketevan Kemoklidze is actively involved in music education, giving masterclasses at various institutions and international programmes, including the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, ESMUC in Barcelona, the CRESCENDO Young Artists Programme of Teatro Real, the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears, and Atelier d’Excellence, among others.
