Joan Laínez Biography
A trained pianist and choral conductor, Joan Laínez began his vocal studies at the Professional Conservatory of the Balearic Islands.
In 2023, he won first prize at the international «Grandi Voci de Salzburg» competition and second prize at the «Concorso Internazionale Canto Lirico Bellano Paese Degli Artisti.» In 2022, he received the audience prize at the «Jole de Maria International Competition» in Tivoli, Italy, followed by a concert in Naples. He was a finalist at the prestigious «Stignani Competition» in Imola and, in 2021, won second prize at the «Corsica Lírica International Competition,» where he also received the «In Opera Veritas» award.
In 2023, he performed as Canio (Pagliacci) and Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana) at the opera festival in Amerang, Germany, the latter of which he also sang during a tour in Italy in 2022. That same year, he performed as Don Carlo at the «Oper Im Berg» festival in Salzburg. At the Auditorio de Tenerife, he portrayed the role of Almanaque in the opera María Moliner. In Mallorca, he sang Giuseppini in El Dúo de la Africana, and in Ciudad Real, he performed the role of Javier in the zarzuela Luisa Fernanda with the OFMAN orchestra.
In December, he was invited by the Jaume Aragall Foundation to give a recital at the Cercle del Liceu in Barcelona. At the Teatro Principal in Palma, he has performed roles including Tinca and Gherardo (Il Trittico), Gastone (La Traviata), and the premiere of the opera L’Arxiduc.
He will also perform Verdi’s Requiem at the National Auditorium in Madrid and Mozart’s Requiem at the Cathedral of Mallorca with the Orquesta Sinfónica de las Islas Baleares, with whom he will also present several zarzuela recitals under the direction of Maestro Pablo Mielgo.
Recently, he made a highly acclaimed debut at the Ópera de Oviedo as Radamès in Aida.
Among his commitments for 2025 are Der Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer at the Tenerife Opera and his debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid with La Traviata.
