Carolina Moncada Biography
She began her musical studies in Pamplona and graduated from the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid.
Recently nominated as «Best Female lyrical music Performer» at the 2025 Talia Awards by the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts.
She made her debut in 2009 with Ópera Cómica de Madrid in the revival of the zarzuela La gallina ciega by F. Caballero, performing it in numerous Spanish and international theaters, including in Santiago de Chile and at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico.
In 2011, she joined the opera studio at Teatro Real in L’enfant et les sortilèges, a co-production with L’Atelier Lyrique of Paris and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Since then, she has performed in works such as Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina), Die Zauberflöte (Pamina), Don Giovanni (Zerlina), Le cinesi (Lisigna), Luisa Fernanda (Luisa Fernanda), Los gavilanes (Adriana), La del manojo de rosas (Ascensión/Clarita), El caserío (Inosencia), La rosa del azafrán (Catalina), Gloria y peluca (María), El dúo de la Africana, Quien porfía mucho alcanza, El bateo, Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente, El chaleco blanco, and El sobre verde.
She has performed on stages such as: Teatro de la Zarzuela, Auditorio Nacional, Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, Villamarta Theater in Jerez, Teatro Calderón and Auditorio Delibes in Valladolid, Teatro Arriaga and Campos Elíseos in Bilbao, Real Coliseo Carlos III in El Escorial, Teatros del Canal, Veranos de la Villa Festival in Madrid, Gran Teatro of Córdoba, Teatro Gayarre and Baluarte Auditorium in Pamplona, Teatro Circo in Albacete, Teatro Principal and Auditorium in Zaragoza, Teatro Quijano in Ciudad Real, Academy Theatre in Shanghai, Teatro de las Condes in Santiago de Chile, and the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, among others.
Her interest in the national lyric genre and Spanish song has led her to participate in the revival of several important but forgotten pieces from the Spanish lyrical theatre repertoire, Zarzuela, and to perform various tributes to Spanish composers, commissioned by the SGAE or the National Library of Spain. As part of her concert activity, she collaborates with institutions such as Fundación March, the Tuesday Musical Cycle of Fundación Vital in Vitoria, Círculo de Labradores in Seville, El Ateneo Navarro, the Zarzuelas en el Olvido cycle, Fundación Mapfre, and many others.
Her recent engagements include: a Spanish song recital tour featuring the premiere of a song cycle by composer Borja Mariño in Seville, Barcelona, and Madrid; Doña Francisquita (Francisca) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; a contemporary music recital with works by Borja Mariño, including the premiere of a piece based on a cantiga by Martín de Codax at the Cidade da Cultura de Galicia Auditorium (April 2023); a concert with baritone Gerardo Bullón featuring 19th-century Spanish lyric works commissioned by the SGAE (June 2023); the premiere of La pícara del Baztán, a zarzuela by Íñigo Casalí, at Teatro Gayarre in Pamplona (November 2023), which received critical and public acclaim; El manojo de rosas again at Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; her debut at Teatro de la Zarzuela with La rosa del azafrán (January 2024); a tribute concert to Gerónimo Giménez (February 2024) at the same theater; a concert for the 200th anniversary of Francisco Asenjo Barbieri at Coliseo del Escorial (March 2024); a concert marking the 125th anniversary of the SGAE (June 2024); a performance at the Prado Museum for the exhibition Art and Social Transformations in Spain (June 2024); a concert at the American Institute of Madrid with works by Spanish composers exiled in the U.S. (June 2024); the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni in Lanzarote (August 2024); a tribute to Oudrid at Teatro de la Zarzuela (February 2025); and a gala at the National Auditorium (March 2025).
Upcoming performances include El potosí submarino by Arrieta at Teatro de la Zarzuela, and Quien porfía mucho alcanza by Manuel García at the Sevilla Ciudad de Ópera Festival.
She has recorded an album with the Ensemble de Madrid and baritone César San Martín, featuring a repertoire largely composed of rediscovered zarzuela works.
