Carmen Buendía Biografía
Carmen was Born in Jaén in 1993, she started playing guitar at the age of ten, after completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Studies with Juan Luque at the Conservatory in Córdoba (Conservatorio Rafael Orozco). She moved to Italy where she studied in “Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini” in Florence with Donatella Debolini where She completed her Singing Master’s Degree (2020). She has received masterclasses and lessons from Mariella Devia, Sonia Ganassi, Jessica Pratt, Chris Merrit, Maria José Siri and pianist That Giulio Zappa, Leone Magiera, Richard Barker, Matteo Pais, Michele D’Elia, and Mrs. Alberto Zedda.
She has won numerous awards in several national and international Music Competitions, including Second Prize at the International Lyric Competition “Giulio Neri” (2018), Third Prize at the Competition “Premio Fausto Ricci” (2018). First Prize at the International Lyric Competition “Ciudad de Logroño” (2019) and Second Prize of Zarzuela at International Lyric Competition of Alicante (2019). She is awarded and gets various scholarships by Jeunesses Musicales de Madrid in the XVII, XXVIII, XIX and XX Edition (2016, 2017,2018 and 2019) obtaining the First Prize for four consecutive years under the Presidency of Honor of SS. MM. Queen Sofia. On the 2021, Extraordinary Prize Ferrer-Salat at the prestigious International Singing Contest Tenor Viñas (Barcelona 2021). She has won the Third Prize and three special prize at International Lyric Competition “Mario Orlandoni” and the First Prize at the Competitions “Certamen Nuevas Voces Ciudad de Sevilla”, “Un Futuro Dearte” and “Compostela Lirica”.
She has performed the roles of Violetta (La Traviata, 2018), Berta (Il Barbiere di Siviglia, 2019 and 2020), Delia (Il viaggio a Reims 2015 and 2020), Suora Infermiera (Suor Angelica, 2019), Anna (Nabucco, 2020), Marcellina (Le Nozze di Figaro, 2022) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni, 2022) on the stages of such esteemed venues as Teatro Rossini di Pesaro, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Alessandro Bonci di Cesena, Teatro de La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna, Teatro Comunale di Sassari, Gran Teatro de Córdoba, Teatro Infanta Leonor de Jaén etc. She has been conducted by Valerio Galli, Michele Gamba, Paolo Carignani, and stage directors Elisabetta Courir, Ricardo Zanetti, Damiano Michieletto, Denis Krief, Leo Muscato.
In August 2015, she was part of The Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro (Italy), before two years she was part of the The Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, where she has participated in concerts and productions. She was finished the studies on the Accademia Belcanto “Rodolfo Celletti”, at the Festival dalla Valle D’Itria.
In October 2019, she took part in the concert Invito All’opera Leone Magiera e..at Teatro de La Fenice in Venice.
In August 2020, she returned to the Rossini Opera Festival to again perform the role of Delia in Il Viaggio a Reims and for make the Clarina’s cover in La Cambiale di Matrimonio by G. Rossini.
From September to November 2021, she was a student at the Accademia Belcanto “Rodolfo Celletti,” part of the Festival della Valle D’Itria in Martina Franca.
In the same month of November, she was the Medea’s Cover in Medea in Corinto by Simon Mayr’s at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo, with stage direction by Francesco Micheli and musical direction by Jonathan Brandani. She also made her debut at the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna with W.A. Mozart’s Requiem, conducted by Paolo Manetti.
In 2022, she has returned to the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino to perform the role of Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Regia by Jonathan Miller (with Georg Rootering) and the Musical Direction of Theodor Guschlbauer, at the Teatro della Pergola; and for make the role of Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia by G. Rossini, Musical Direction by Daniele Gatti and Regia by Damiano Michieletto at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. She made her debut in the role of Donna Elvira in the opera Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart at the Teatro Comunale of Sassari (Italy), Musical direction Sergio Alapont with Regia by Paolo Gavazzeni and Piero Maranghi. In addition to participating in the opera La Cambiale di Matrimonio as a cover of Clarina produced at the Royal Opera House in Muscat (Oman).
In 2023, she participated in the production “Trilogia Verdiana” as Violetta (La Traviata) and Alice Ford (Falstaff) in collaboration with the Accademia Chigiana of Siena under the musical direction of Daniele Gatti.
In 2024, she debuted at the Teatro de La Maestranza in Seville with the role of Anna in Nabucco. She played Costanza in the opera Bianca e Falliero, within the Rossini Opera Festival and she was Aida, in the opera Aida by G. Verdi at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo.
In 2025, she made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona as Meretate in Philip Glass’s opera Akhnaten last October. Her upcoming debuts include the title role in Bellini’s Norma at the Fundació Òpera de Catalunya in February and the title role in Anna in Nabucco at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg in 2026.
