Frank Beermann Biography
Frank Beermann has internationally established himself as a conductor both on stage and with his numerous recordings. His constant curiosity and great interest in an unknown and new repertoire but also in reinterpretations have brought him many prizes and great recognition. Among the prizes he has attained are the Echo Klassik (2009 for the recording of the Mendelssohn piano concertos with Matthias Kirschnereit, (Sony classical) the Excellentia Award from Pizzicato (2010 for the recordings of Sinding’s violin concertos) in 2013 he was awarded for the „rediscovery of the year“ by the „Opernwelt“ (for the world premiere of Vasco da Gama by Meyerbeer, the recording is to be released in 2014 by cpo). His interpretation of Wagner’s „Tristan and Isolde“ and the rediscovery of Vasco da Gama by Meyerbeer in Chemnitz caused a lot of excitement in both German and international feuilletons. The German opera magazine „Das Opernglas“ wrote in September 2011:“ Frank Beermann is on his way to become one of the most important German conductors“.
The German premiere of the opera „Love and other Demons“ by Peter Eötvös at the Chemnitz Theater in 2009 was celebrated by the German feuilletons just as much as the rediscoveries of the operas „Il Templario“ and „Die Heimkehr des Verbannten“ by Otto Nicolai, „Die Rose vom Liebesgarten“ by Hans Pfitzner and „Der Schmied von Gent“ by Franz Schreker were. His wide repertoire has lately had its focus on Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler and Richard Wagner. After the complete recordings of Mozarts piano concertos with Matthias Kirschnereit and the Bamberger Symphoniker his occupation with Mozart has constantly advanced. He conducted the operas „The Magic Flute“ and „Le nozze di Figaro“ at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. Frank Beermann conducted Richard Strauss’ „Arabella“ at the Semperoper in Dresden which was a great success. The intensive involvement with the work of Strauss had its peak with the production of „Die Schweigsame Frau“ in the 11/12 season (the CD was reecently released by cpo).
Successful guest appearances brought Frank Beermann, who is Generalmusikdirektor at the Chemnitz Theater since 2007 and principle conductor of the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie, to the Staatsoper unter den Linden, the Semperoper, the Oper Leipzig, the Finish National Opera Helsinki, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Hamburgische Staatsoper, the Oper Bonn, the Opera de Marseille, the Royal Opera Stockholm, the Teatro Municipal Santiago de Chile and the Liceu in Barcelona in the last years. He continued to work with the Bamberger Symphoniker the Gewandhausorchester ,Rundfunkorchster BR, the Radiophilharmonie of NDR, the German Radio Philharmony of SR, the Rundfunkorchester of WDR, the Bochumer Symphoniker Orchestra, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the orchestras in Bilbao, Sevilla, Gran Canaria, Oviedo, Barcelona, the Berner Siynphony Orchester and the Bruckner Orchestra of Linz among others.
