“Constantini enjoys the best of all worlds… he deftly illuminates the music from the inside, peering into its corners and deconstructing its compositional labyrinths.”
Claudio Constantini holds an international and multi-faceted career as a performer of two instruments, the piano and the bandoneón, as well as being a composer in demand.
Born and raised in Lima (Perú) into a musician´s family, Constantini´s unique style is defined by its solid classical roots paired with a passion for popular music genres, among which Latin American music and Jazz/fusion play a key role.
Constantini´s engagements during 2017/2018 include highlights at acclaimed concert venues such as The Berlin Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus in Vienna or the Palau de la Música in Barcelona to name only a selected few, as well as appearances in festivals such as the Rheingau festival (Germany), Klassik an Dom (Linz, Austria) and Ravinia festival (USA), among others.
Among his musical partners this season were a few great musicians: Nemanja Radulovic and Les Trilles Du Diable, Andreas Ottensamer, Erwin Schrott, Alexander Sitkovetsky, and Ksenija Sidorova.
With Sidorova he performs actively in her “Carmen” project, whose CD album earned her an ECHO Classical award.
In 2018 two very anticipated CD releases will see the light. One of them is the second volume of Debussy´s complete piano works, containing the complete Preludes, Estampes and other works
The second is titled “America” and is a tribute to the music of George Gershwin and Astor Piazzolla. Both albums will be released by the IBS Classical label.
His first solo album “Reflets dans l´eau” (vol.1 from the integrale of Debussy piano works) has received top reviews and was selected among the best albums of 2015 by Fanfare magazine (USA).
As a result of his love for jazz and Argentinean Tango music, he created his own “Claudio Constantini Quintet”, an exciting ensemble in which he combines both worlds. Formed by some of the most relevant jazz musicians in the Spanish scene, the ensemble performs jazz standards with a twist and original compositions by Constantini. Their debut album “Obstinado” earned them great reviews in the international press.
Constantini has been invited to teach masterclasses at several institutions in Europe and abroad. He organizes the yearly “Primavera Pianistica” masterclasses and competition in Belgium, aimed at young pianists who wish to develop their artistry further.
He initiated his piano studies with his father (Gerardo Constantini) and later received a performer´s degree in Finland, a master´s degree in The Netherlands, and finally the diplome de concert in Paris, all of which earned him the highest distinctions.
He was a pupil and eventually assistant of maestro Aquiles Delle Vigne, disciple of the legendary pianist Claudio Arrau.
Claudio Constantini lives in Madrid (Spain) with his wife Louiza, who is also an active concert pianist. He has a keen interest in photography and sports.
